Hi "Big Daddy." So I hear you're the man. I've never really met you in person so I don't know. People say you love me and that you surely have my back, but most of the good that has happened in my life seems to have occurred by my effort or chance. Therefore I don't … Continue reading Fence Sitting Eve
I positioned the daruma in the most prominent spot on my makeshift dresser top shrine. I had purchased the three-inch papier-mâché roly-poly, the smallest among several available versions, for a paltry 300 yen from a temple near Yuki’s house. Apparently it was a Buddhist talisman capable of granting one wish. My Japanese sister had told … Continue reading My One-Eyed Genie
She navigates the world like any other. A human slicing and dicing her way through a crowd greeting those she knows... Smiling at some she doesn't; weaving through traffic. To a destination, onward. "Should I turn my ice maker off at night?" the frail voice at the other end of the phone inquired. "I don't think so. Why would you want to?" I asked. Without giving the lady time to answer my question I attempted to control the call. "Do you happen to have the model number for your … Continue reading When Jesus Calls Customer Service

Our belief and prayers are our fortune. With them we have more than a fighting chance; without them we are overrun. There will always be invaders, and what amounts to our portion becomes a "wheel of misfortune" for those who try to hurt us. Our first night at our camp was straight out of hell. … Continue reading Avoiding a Spiritual Infestation
